FORUM: FOUND IN TRANSLATION

Forum: Found in Translation, organised by the Robin Boyd Foundation and curated by David Neustein, focuses on the impact of Japanese architecture on Australian design. It reflects how Japan's spatial inventiveness has inspired generations of Australian architects.

Renowned architect Robin Boyd valued both traditional Japanese architecture and the innovative approaches of his late-modern Japanese contemporaries. This event aims to explore the synergy between Japanese and Australian architectural philosophies, considering how elements from Japan can be integrated into the Australian context.

Key discussion points include hybrid households that cater to diverse familial structures, designing for ageing populations, and the importance of urban greening in the face of climate change. By examining these shared themes and everyday interests, Forum: Found in Translation will foster a deeper understanding of how Japanese design principles can inform sustainable and adaptable architectural practices in Australia, ultimately contributing to the evolution of contemporary Australian architecture through a cross-cultural lens.
