Jewell Station Village Street Party

It was a joy to see the Jewell Station Village community come together to host their first Street Party on Sunday 7th December. With Wilson Avenue temporarily closed to car traffic through Merri-bek’s Play Streets program, the street was reimagined as a place to gather and celebrate, bringing neighbours, friends and local businesses together.

Following the completion of roadworks and with residents now settled at 9 Wilson Avenue, the event was created in order celebrate the connection between the growing community. The day unfolded with yoga on the street, a demonstration by the Goju Ryu Brunswick Karate Club, music from local DJs, and an array of food, drink and stalls run by residents and nearby small businesses. A highlight for many was the inaugural Dogs of Jewell Station Village show, which saw more than 25 dogs of all shapes and sizes take part.

What stood out most was the collective effort behind the day. From the organisers and volunteers to the Wilson Avenue residents and local traders, the street party reflected the generosity, creativity and community spirit that defines this part of Brunswick. The following images perfectly capture the ease of the day - familiar faces, shared laughter and a sense of community that felt genuinely affirming.
